labor day

This labor day weekend we did our two cabin visit. I wish they were closer together. One is up Ogden Canyon and the other is east of Heber. It's a two hour drive between the two of them. Thank goodness for Harry Potter books on tape. We covered a lot of book on that trip.

We started off visiting my Grandma Taintor's cabin. There is a river behind the cabin but because it was a little bit cool no one wanted to get in. No one but Bella that is. That kid is fearless. Not a sissy bone in her body. We spent most of the day just relaxing. GrandMerry spent some time with the girls making jewelry and Papa took the kids on various hikes. Mariah's favorite thing was playing with papa's walkie-talkies. We also took a drive down to the Monastery. Those monks have a God given gift of making flavored creamed honey. Simply delightful. Mariah made it a point to tell them, "we don't belong to your church, we were just at our cabin." And while purchasing Veggie Tales movies Hayley proclaimed, "we don't belong to your church but we like the movies anyway." Ah, kids. They say the most appropriate things. While he was waiting for dinner Scott built a fire for the kids. Or at least that's what he wanted me to think. I think he just wanted to play with the fire. By the way thanks to Janie for taking pictures. I was being much to lazy to be bothered with photography. After dinner on Saturday we headed on our way to the Turners cabin.

It was much cooler and wetter for the last two days so we spent most of out time hanging out in the cabin. On Monday it rained, hailed and snowed. It was o.k. though. We had tennis to watch and naps to take. The kids enjoyed playing with their cousins and watching movies. Much to our relief Gabe has learned to stay way far away from the wood burning stove. This makes being at the cabin so much less stressful. I think he remembers last years painful encounter.

I love labor day. It's so non-laborious.
